Hello Everyone, my name is Shirley Wang. My students call me Ms. Shirley. I have been a professional musician for over 20 years and have taught for over 20 years. My students range from age 3 to 70+, from absolute beginners to professional performers to other music teachers. I started studying the piano at age 4 and loved it ever since. I started singing opera when I was a teenager. I have performed solos in 8 languages as a professional opera singer. (English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Latin, Chinese, and Hebrew!) I received my music performance degree from the University of Southern California, performed on the Carnegie Hall stage as a soloist, and am still learning, growing, and actively performing as a pianist and an opera singer.

One fun fact about me: My mom told me when I was 4 years old, I would go to the piano and tell her, "I want to play the piano when I am happy, and I want to play the piano when I am sad." I cannot imagine how she felt when she watched her little 4-year-old saying this. But I can tell you, my love for music has only grown since. My mother always said, "if your music cannot speak to the least musically inclined, then you have not done your job." Oddly, she is not a musician, yet this is probably the most profound influence I have had on my performance and teaching!

I am offering classes & workshops for piano, voice, music theory of all levels and age groups, Chinese conversational classes for non-native speakers, and piano classes peppered with some conversational Chinese for those who learn a new language better within a context! I believe fun and excellence can go hand-in-hand. I love it when students feel "G-R-E-A-T" with what they have accomplished!

Looking forward to having you in my classroom!
